Celebrating Women’s History Month

Posted on March 1, 2021

Who run the world? March is Women’s History Month, a month to recognize all the contributions women have made throughout history. It started in 1981 in the United States with Women’s History Week starting March 7. In 1987, after petitions and activist work, March was deemed Women’s History Month. The month is recognized in the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia in March, and in October in Canada.

International Women’s Day is a day celebrated across the world on March 8 as a pillar for women’s rights. There are many milestones that led to this date: Women’s Day started in New York City on February 28, and women gained suffrage in Soviet Russia in 1917, creating a new national holiday on March 8. It was adopted by the feminist movement around 1967, and recognized by the U.N. in 1977.
